True New Yorkers might rely on the city’s subway more than people in any other cities in the US, but no other city depends more on its taxicabs than New York. New Yorkers share a love-hate relationship with their bright yellow taxis that often feature in the background of movies on TV or in theaters. This necessity for tourists also causes horrible traffic jams in the city, but it can also transport passengers in a hurry through the grid streets of Manhattan to their destinations quicker than the subway. In 2011 alone, all of the New York taxis made five hundred thousand trips per day and transported around 240 million passengers. New Yorkers could hardly deny that their yellow taxis have become the most memorable symbol of the New York lifestyle.
