“Creative City: Chiang Mai's Creative Potentials”

In collaboration with Chiang Mai Creative City Committee and Chiang Mai University, TCDC will hold the seminar “Creative City: Chiang Mai’s Creative Potentials” on September 1, 2011 at the Kantary Hills Hotel, 12 Nimmanhemin Road, Chiang Mai. Presenting the city in new perspectives, the seminar will reveal the true potential of the people of Chiang Mai through their creative city development.

Join us to explore Chiang Mai’s industry in terms of its economy and creativity in Nimmanhemin Road, Wat Umong, Pong Noi and the area around the city’s moat by Dr. Peeradorn Kaewlai, Chairperson of the City Research Unit and lecturer in Architectural Studies at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Thammasat University.

Learn about the development of Chiang Mai as a creative city from government agency, policy makers, academics and representatives from business sectors under the theme “Creative City: Chiang Mai’s Creative Potentials”. After the seminar, there will be two workshops that focus on the strategies of product development which meets the needs of modern consumers.

This seminar aims to raise awareness and understanding of Creative City and Creative Entrepreneur which are key components of the government’s Creative Economy policy.

“The Right Eco Design in Other Perspectives” Workshop

Explore your identities and develop your own design in terms of decoration and environmental usage through the study of 4 examples of outstanding works.
1. Bamboo Glasses – design by using environmental friendly materials. 
2. Slow Series – design that uses wood materials to its full value and reduce its production process.
3. Big Bowl Small – design by using unwanted materials.
4. Sub-stool – design by using steel plates.

About o-d-a / object design alliance

o-d-a was founded in 2003 by two members of Silpakorn University faculty: Juthamard Buranajet from the Department of Product Design and Piti Aumrarong from the Department of Visual Communication Design. They collaborated in designing products such as chairs and wood materials that won the Grand Prix award at the Nextmaruni Wooden Armchairs Competition 2005 in Japan and the Designer of the year 2008 award in Thailand. At present, apart from producing products under the brand o-d-a, they also design children furniture for Katoji in Japan.

Terms and Conditions
1. Participants must bring their own products to the workshop.
2. Participants must complete the registration form; provide a recent photograph and information about their products. (2-3 products will be selected for a case study during the workshop)

“Creating Product Values through Garment Care Label” Workshop
When 14.00 – 17.00
By Dr. Naraporn Rungsimuntakul, an expert at the Textile Analysis Center, Textile Industrial Institute  

As the textile and garment industry become conscious of “garment labels”, the placement of labels becomes an issue not to be overlooked. Learn about garment care labels from washing and ironing instructions, how to read different icons and the information about fibers. Try writing your own product label for future usage.  

About Dr. Naraporn Rungsimuntakul

Dr. Naraporn Rungsimuntakul graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Chulalongkorn University in Material Science and received her master degree in Textiles and PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science from North Carolina State University. After finishing her degrees, she started working as a scientist in the textile department at the Department of Industrial Promotion. She was responsible for experimenting textiles and started analysing different types of fiber. She then became a researcher in polymer & environment at the Research Triangle Institute, USA for one year as well as taking the role of a manager of Environment Lab at the North Carolina State University for three years. She returned to Thailand and became the manager of research and development in polymer addictives at Zenith Power for nine years. From 2003 to present she is an expert at the Textile Analysis Center, Textile Industrial Institute where she gives advice and introduces the qualities and standards of textiles, textile experimentation, international  textile rules and regulations, environmental label production as well as manages the laboratory systems.
