“The evolution of tokyoplastic; creative success in a commercial world” lecture by Sam Lanyon Jones is held as a part of “DigiPlay: Thai-UK Digital Festival” exhibition.

UK design studio tokyoplastic is a collaboration of Sam Lanyon Jones and Drew Cope. Together, they were raised by Amish foster parents and after leaving home and traveling the world, they were reunited by chance in 2002 and fathered tokyoplastic. Taking it from humble beginnings as a 15-second Claymation Nano-series to an internationally recognised website it is today.

They have won numerous awards but the most significant ones are: the audience award at the Sundance Online Film Festival, the Flash Forward 3D category, which they won three years in a row and also D&AD pencil award.

Sam Lanyon Jones will be discussing his creative process and the journey of tokyoplastic from website through to commercials. Their creative projects cover a spectrum ranging from dildo design to the direction of multimillion dollar advertising campaigns for Microsoft, Aiwa, Mitsubishi, Guy Ritchie, Dreamworks SKG, AMD, to name but a few. Through their eye-catching animation, tokyoplastic have aced several marketing campaigns for clients like MTV, Nike and Motorola, and most recently, their second campaign for Toyota.

tokyoplastic are recognised in the industry as brave risk-takers. Inspired by Takashi Murakami, Miyazaki and Mike Judge, the pair has a passion for all things – you guessed it – Japanese and plastic.
