In collaboration with the Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TCDC organises the lecture “Brand Strategy by Thakoon” with a purpose to share the working process and experience of a world-renowned Thai designer, Thakoon Panichgul.

The American-Thai designer, owner of the brand Thakoon, was born in Chiang Rai province. He relocated to the United States with his family and studied business at Boston University. He then moved to New York to pursue his dream of working in fashion and worked as a buyer at J. Crew.

Thakoon had then worked as an editor at Harper’s Bazaar as well as study Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design. When he launched his first ready to wear collection under the label Thakoon in 2004, Thakoon was widely lauded as one of New York’s most promising young talents. His collection appeared in leading magazines such as Vogue, Elle and W.

In 2005, Thakoon received the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award in the category of The New Faces of Fashion Designers which gave him the opportunity to work with world-class designers such as Zac Posen, Derek Lam, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hermandez. Thakoon fully established himself in the world fashion scene in 2008 when his clothes was worn twice by U.S. first lady Michelle Obama during the US presidential election race.
