Together with curator Volker Albus the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e. V. (ifa) and the Goethe-Institut Thailand in cooperation with Crystal Design Center (CDC) present “new olds. Design between Tradition and Innovation”, with sixty exhibits that explore the relationship between tradition and innovation in contemporary design. The variety and topicality of the many approaches are bundled around the themes material, construction, configuration, production, and traditional use. Forty-five designers and design teams from Germany, other European countries and the USA enter here into an intensive dialogue, and the international nature of the show is further emphasized by its world tour with its connections to the local cultures on site.
The exhibition invites the general public to enjoy the visual and sensual presentation of the exhibits. This toured exhibition is a chance for local designers who are willing to present their own designed pieces which were inspired from the same concept like the new olds exhibition.
: This blog shows the work of local designers exploring topics related to new olds that are presented in the exhibition space or in a special additional show. Documenting all the works that are produced in accompanying events during the entire tour will further facilitate the dialogue and exchange of ideas on contemporary theory and design practice in a variety of nations and cultures.
The local designers include Saran Youkongdee (winner of numerous awards worldwide, latest the Design Excellence Award 2014), Pandet Bootkyo (founder of mini animal design Co. Ltd.), Vachira Tonggrow (design focused on woods under artist name: If I were a Carpenter), Supharoek Singthoraj and Jennarong Sangboon (Deed Design Studio – contemporary modern design made in Chiang Mai).
